Teacher: Tamatoa
Time Frame: Mid Afternoon, after lunch. About 1-2 PM. Tuesdays and Thursdays.
Information: In this class, students will learn about the mysterious magical creatures in the world both well known and not as much. They will also learn their strengths and weaknesses, how to approach them, and how to handle them, whether it’s to take care of a small harmless one or how to avoid and defend yourself against larger and/or dangerous creatures.
This class takes on a more hands-on approach with occasional on the field training in the forest and the beach. Students are encouraged to talk about their experiences with magical creatures whether they encountered one, are friends with one, or if their family is one of the species. While a textbook isn’t required, students may bring books to discuss how accurate the text is regarding magical creatures. While there are no traditional quizzes or tests, the teacher may administer a pop quiz or test when necessary.
The Final Exam consists of two parts:
1) Throughout the course, students will pick a small creature as their companion/partner. They will learn about that creature, bond with it, take care of it, and then present their overall progress to the class however they wish.
2) At the end of the class, students will work together and demonstrate how to defend and handle a larger creature. To not endanger the students and at least give them a fighting chance, the teacher will be the magical creature. Using their acquired skills, the class must avoid and subdue Tamatoa before a time-limit. While individual grades based on what each individual did will be administered, the group collaboration is the essential part of the grade.
