Name: Shirayuki Fuyumi (meaning Winter Beauty)
Age: 20
Occupation: Healer at Lunaville’s Hospital and certified Herbalist
Powers: None
Personality: Shirayuki is known to be a very strong-willed and bright young woman. Often described as optimistic, proud, resourceful, compassionate, and determined by people around her, Shirayuki is willing to do whatever it takes to get the job done correctly. Most of the time, Shirayuki tries to be reasonably independent, but she can accept help from others when necessary. Although, her independence does end up biting her in the butt when she overworks herself and gets sick as a result. Still, Shirayuki tends to pay less attention to her needs by focusing on other people first. She would place anyone precious to her ahead of herself and become prone to take action when there is injustice.
Shirayuki is also highly knowledgeable in magical and non-magical herbalism and medicine and prefers doing things the ‘right way’ - though this often leads her to dangerous encounters. She also doesn’t like hiding information from others and would rather face the truth than keep it from them to protect the things she cares about deeply. Shirayuki’s also a very patient and diligent person when it comes to her duties at the hospital, preferring to do most of the work herself. Above all, Shirayuki is generally kind to everyone she meets and rarely gets angry at other people unless they deserve it.
Backstory: Initially, Shirayuki came from a small town named Tanbarun, where magic wasn’t well known as opposed to places like Lunaville. Shirayuki and her family owned a small pub inside the city that was quite popular with the civilians. Her mother, Sakura, had come from a family of healers and herbalists, while her father had remained in the mountains tending to a small village that helped give people a place to live if they needed it. However, Shirayuki never got to meet her parents because her mother, Sakura, passed away when she was a child, and her father left before she was even born. Since then, Shirayuki mostly lived with her grandparents until she was eighteen, when they passed away from an illness, leaving her to take care of the pub. When Shirayuki was younger, her grandmother would tell her all sorts of stories of her parents, and some of those stories included how her parents met. Based on their memories, Shirayuki’s mother worked as a part-time nurse for the local hospital, tending to patients with her herbs.
Soon after that, he found himself in a hospital with no memory of how it happened until a nurse explained that a few people saw him and brought him to a small pub her family-owned. She also told him he had a few broken bones and a fever that required him to stay in the hospital for a few days after explaining that he was found after a wagon crash-landed into town. Although Mukaze desired to go back to his village, he knew he couldn’t go anywhere else with his current state and allowed the woman to help him. Though as the days went by, he found himself staying longer than he initially intended because he couldn’t help but be fascinated with her work. As he watched her work, Sakura explained to him that she was an herbalist and hoped to be a doctor once she could attend college so Sakura could be a professional healer. As the days went by, Mukaze formed a small friendship with Sakura, eventually forming a romantic relationship with Sakura. Unfortunately, because of Mukaze’s position as chief of his tribe, the relationship did not last very long as there were some necessary matters he needed to attend to once he got better. However, Mukaze wouldn’t even know that Sakura ended up pregnant with a girl named Shirayuki, and Sakura would eventually pass away from an illness.
When she was a child, Shirayuki had loved stories growing up. Some of them contained stories about her parents, while others contained stories about magic and the beauty of nature. Her favorite books were ones that Shirayuki would read late at night about various plants and the different kinds of magical plants Shirayuki could use to help people. Because of these books, she longed to become an herbalist and wanted to help heal people as her mother had once done. So later that day, Shirayuki began to study all that she could about healing magic and various plants to reach that goal. When she wasn’t reading, she would spend time aiding her grandmother in the garden or helping her grandparents at their family pub and would frequently travel through the forest to look for new plants that could help in her studies. Sadly as time passed, Shirayuki wasn’t sure how she would reach for her dream of being a herbalist would work because her grandparents fell ill from an incurable disease. Within time, her grandparents died of the illness, but not before leaving the family’s pub in Shirayuki’s care to do whatever she wished. Refusing to let her dreams and grandparents’ wishes go to waste, she decided to turn the pub into a tiny little herbalist shop where she used it to help heal people around her town. Days went on, and the little shop she created soon became one of the most visited places in Tanbarun to get medicine. Although Shirayuki still wished to become an official herbalist like she originally wanted, Shirayuki was glad she could get a chance to help people. However, when she was working one day, she couldn’t help but overhear a couple of people chatting at her shop about a local company that made different kinds of potions, owned by the heir of one of the wealthiest families in the city named Raj Shenazard. But when she overheard one of them talking about how they were hiring for a new herbalist, she couldn’t help but felt hopeful that she could reach for her dream after all. The next thing she knew, Shirayuki closed up shop and made her down to the company to apply for the job, eventually meeting Raj himself.
At first, Shirayuki thought Raj was a little strange, to say the least, mainly because every time Shirayuki wanted to discuss the interview, Raj seemed to be more focused on other things, such as himself. After trying a few more times, Shirayuki felt frustrated she was not getting the interview she wanted and started to leave, but not before Raj stopped her offering her a proposal. According to him, there was a town not that far from Tanbarun called Lunaville, where magic was welcomed to anyone, no matter if they had magic or not. He also added that he could arrange an interview with one of his contacts at the local hospital as they lacked healers. Realizing this is her chance to become the herbalist she always dreamed about, she accepted the offer without hesitation. The next thing she knew, Shirayuki was headed for Lunaville by taking the train to the town first thing in the morning. However, as she arrived in Lunaville, Shirayuki couldn’t help but be amazed at the many different magical wonders the city had and was curious to see what else it had in store for her.
Once she made it to the hospital, she found herself introduced to one of the workers named Trafalgar Law, who instantly wanted to hire her right on the spot after hearing good things from Raj. Yet while she was flattered by the offer, Shirayuki declined it because she wanted to be treated fairly like everyone else, leading Law to give her a trial run instead. A test which she ended up passing with flying colors. Feeling ecstatic, she immediately thanked Law for the job, then started making plans to buy an apartment close enough to the hospital, alongside reminding herself to send a thank you letter to Raj. And although a part of Shirayuki still missed Tanbarun, plus the people she helped there, she couldn’t wait to start her new life in Lunaville and was curious to see what else was in store for her.
Face Claim: Shirayuki (Snow White with the Red Hair)
Notes: First things first, I want to give a huge thank you to Wing for helping me out with this. I appreciate it a lot. ^^ Okay, this took a little longer than I wanted to, so I’m sorry for the long wait! Originally, I was going to have Shirayuki be a magic-user before I ended up scrapping it, so I had to rewrite half of the backstory. Not what I really wanted, but whatever. At least she’s finally done.
Now as to why I chose the following names for Shirayuki’s surname because the first name of her mother simply because Sakura means Cherry Blossom and Fuyumi means “Winter, Beauty,” which I thought suited Shirayuki very well. ^^
