Not feeling well, but wanted to get this out there since I got some musicals on my brain lately, especially a recent one that I now finally checked out. (Beetlejuice the Musical)
What kind of musicals or plays would the drama class/club do?
Because I was thinking since some students have plants/plant manipulation, maybe Little Shop of Horrors?
Then I had an idea of Karma auditioning for Beetlejuice and the chaos that might bring. We could change some parts to some musicals to make it more academy appropriate.
Sorry if I brought this up. Just wanted to get it out there

Oh, my gosh, I’d love to do musicals!! I’m all for it! ![:D](//storage.proboards.com/forum/images/smiley/grin.png) Little Shop of Horrors would be so fun! And oh lord, Karma as Beetlejuice would be interesting. XD

Honestly, most musicals/play should be fine to exist in the SoM universe in general. ![:)](//storage.proboards.com/forum/images/smiley/smiley.png) The main ones I can't see being used are one's base off of Disney's musicals since Disney characters are allowed to be used by RPers (Through Rodger and Hammerstein version of Cinderella would be fine.^^) or ones based off/loosely inspirited by real-life events like Anastasia and Hamilton. Swan Lake should also be fine as long as it's not based on the movie and is instead based off of the original ballet. ![:)](//storage.proboards.com/forum/images/smiley/smiley.png) And not gotta lie: The idea of Little Shop of Horror would be fun to see. ![:D](//storage.proboards.com/forum/images/smiley/grin.png) Same with Karma as Beetlejuice.XD

I can think of a few musicals other than Beetlejuice and Little Shop of Horrors that can be good. And this is coming from a girl who legit loves musicals(most of them)
1) Fiddler on the Roof 2) Freaky Friday: The Musical(although it's Disney, it still works in my eyes) 3) Frankenstein: A New Musical(I think Varian would be perfect to play Victor given his character arc reminds me of Victor's) 4) Heathers the Musical 5) Mean Girls: The Musical 6) Tootsie: The Musical 7) Pretty Woman: The Musical 8) A Funny Thing Happened on the Way to the Forum 9) Guys and Dolls 10)Pippin 11) South Pacific 12) Oliver! 13) A Christmas Carol: The Musical(the one composed by Alan Menken) 14) Phantom of the Opera 15) Be More Chill 16) Waitress 17) Matilda: The Musical 18) Wicked 19) Les Miserables 20) CATS 21) Hello Dolly 22) The Wiz! 23) My Fair Lady 24) Once on This Island 25) Dracula: The Musical(either the Michael McCarthy or Frank Wildhorn version)

I kind of think CATS would be a fun and silly play for the RP and I can imagine the characters feeling awkward in being in Cat suits... hehehehe
I also like Heathers so that would be also fun to work with... of course the swearing and homophobic slurs would have to be edited out.
Though in this world I have to think that school-based terrorism would be more well-protected thanks to magic. Then again maybe not...
Wonder if how feline anthros would feel about CATS and whether it would be the equivalent of a minstrel show? Like how Rocky Horror is EXTREMELY offensive to transpeople.

Yeah. Definitely not(as much as I love them). Especially since it would be a little akward(in Cats' case), link to terroism(Heathers) or slightly ffensive to LGBTQs(Tootsie and Rocky Horror)
The other ones are toats easy as I can see them in it. But I can totally see them doPhantom, Matilda, Hello Dolly, Wicked, or Frankenstein especially since I see Varian in the role as Victor due to their similar character arcs.
I also wanted to put Sweeney Todd, but no,...due to blood and gore(not to mention cannibalism and creepy shit involving Judge Turpin who raped Todd's wife then lusted after her daughter when she is of Age)

Can you just imagine how a Carrie adaptation would play out? God, I really need to work on the Drama course for School of Magic. XD This is going to be so much fun.
Varian as Victor Frankenstein...that would be very interesting.
I know a few foreign musicals I've enjoyed. Tanz Der Vamprie (although it's more infamously known as Dance of the Vampires in America) and Frank Wildhorn's adaptation of the Count of Monte Cristo. Not sure if those would be allowed.

I've seen a production of Heathers that actually cuts down most of the slurs and swears. It was a jr community theatre production, so a Heathers production could be possible. Not to mention Riverdale did...eh. Let's not talk about Riverdale's adaptation of Heathers. And I don't even watch Riverdale.

It COULD work for the RP, yet, I prefer the original(though I don't like some of the slurs, the swearing I can handle)

Yeah, it was inspired by this video that I saw(https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=WXM0kx8Z5VA) as Victor in the video reminded me of Varian and I read the book of Frankenstein and I immediately thought of Varian because both Victor and Varian actually went through a similar character arc. The Drama thing would be awesome to do

Sure, it's not about it completely but there is the 1832 Paris Uprising detail since that is the battle fought in it. As for Freaky Friday, I recall there being one at isn't Disney. So if that version is used, it should be fine. But as much as I love Disney, it may not make much sense for the company to exist in this world due to the fact many characters from the RP do come from Disney movies.

There is likely some musical's we won't be able to do, since Wing mentioned not being able to do non-Disney and historical ones, but we should be able to do a fair amount. ^^
Yeah, I agree with you there, Wing. Since a fair amount of RP characters come from Disney, it probably wouldn't make much sense for the company to exist in the RP.

Evita would also be out then because that's mostly based on the real-life Eva Peron. Not sure if the Sound of Music could count now since the Von Trapp family were real people, the movie and stage show are loosely based on them.

Oh right. Sorry. I forgot about that
But the musical of Freaky Friday is from Disney Theatricals and it's more aduly than the DCOM that people forget it's from their company. They use some cursing and stuff that's PG-13 like one element was the mom(in daughter's body) noticed a tattoo and the daughter noticed her mom smokes. The song is called "You're Busted." The whole soundtrack is on YouTube
