Name: Violet Evergarden
Age: Unknown (Seems to be around 25-28)
Species: Human
Power: Superhuman Strength
Occupation: Lunaville's Postal Office Mail Carrier/Former Adventurer
Personality: Violet is a woman with seemingly little to no emotion, appearing stoic and distant at all times. This isn't necessarily true, as she does have emotions, but struggles to recognize or display them properly. During her earlier years, it seemed she was intentionally raised this way, and the cold attitude she had at the time didn't necessarily dissuade her caretakers of this notion as she grew older.
Violet is also aloof, expressionless and is said to have the attitude and the presence of a doll. Her expressions are mostly deadpan, so it is hard to tell her mood changes. This is why she sometimes has trouble expressing her own feelings and comes off as expressionless, which makes it difficult to get through her, but she will give a smile from time to time. These smiles are most often directed at children.
She is often wary and constantly alert due to her previous occupation, not liking to let her guard down in case of an attack. Because of this, Violet can often have sensory overload due to not letting herself rest, and her sleep cycle is often disturbed because of it. Nonetheless, she remains vigilant, regardless of how she feels.
Violet often doesn't necessarily understand people's thoughts or feelings, so when she often acts in response to them, her actions can be seen as eccentric or lacking tact. Though she is polite, careful and deliberate in her actions, she can come across as insensitive, often taking people's words too bluntly or literally, and tending to form responses that can be seen as insulting.
Violet is also very truthful and honest, bluntly stating her opinion if asked for it. She's never afraid to call someone out on being wrong, or going too far, even if she doesn't have a full grasp of the situation.
Due to her distant exterior and often accidentally offending people, Violet doesn't have many friends, but the ones she does have, she does her best to take of their relationships and understand emotions better for their sake. Without knowing it, Violet often displays protectiveness over them and is more then willing to intervene physically if she feels it is needed.
Nonetheless, as Violet interacts with people through her job, she begins to develop emotionally and becomes more empathetic, coming to understand people better through delivering their mail, and even occasionally helping with crafting one, though she does sometimes word things too bluntly still.
Violet considers all memories to be precious, even the ones people hate or dislike due to the negative emotions associated with them.
History: At a young age, Violet was found abandoned on the side of a desolate road in the middle of winter by adventurers, covered in blood and injuries. While they rushed her to the nearest hospital, it was discovered due to a an almost-fatal head injury, she suffered what appeared to be permanent amnesia. The child knew how to eat, drink and the other basics, but she had no memory of her previous life or how she wounded up on the side of the road.
She didn't even have a name, as far as the hospital staff and adventurers were aware. They were all confused, unsure of what to do, until one of the adventurers, a bird anthro named Revali grudgingly decided to take her under his care, claiming he needed an apprentice anyways.
While they started working on the paperwork to set Revali as the child's legal guardian, she spent her time recovering the hospital and slowly getting to know the people who rescued her. It was a difficult process due to the quickly-growing obvious...lack of emotion awareness the girl had. But Revali didn't seem to view it as a necessarily bad thing, being "emotional stunted", as his companions called it, himself.
Though, after more time spent observing her, they noticed a disturbing pattern on how obedient to orders she was, and came to the assumption that she was possibly a slave or indentured servant that managed to escape but was injured during her attempt.
After all the paperwork was finished, Revali was prompted to give the child a name. Having never done this before, and barely old enough to have children of his own, the bird anthro was left at a loss on how to proceed. In an attempt to solve this dilemma, he began spending more around his charge and watched as she fumbled around in the world she forgot and would have to relearn.
One time, Revali noticed she was fascinated by some flowers growing the hospital courtyard, a patch of violets, vibrant and full of life. The anthro realized that could be a name in itself for her, "Violet". And for a last name...well, "Evergarden" wouldn't be a horrible last name for a child who spent her time mostly in the gardens of the hospital grounds when not in her room.
That was the official name given to the amnesiac girl on her paperwork, "Violet Evergarden". Revali still believes to this day it's a rather elegant sounding name, despite the teasing he gets from his companions on how he got to coming up with it. The newly named Violet was glad, in her own way, that she finally had a way to tell if someone was talking to her.
After she was deemed healthy enough to leave the hospital, Revali brought her back home to his home village in the northern mountains of the country, which was full of avian anthros known as "Rito", a nomadic tribe that secluded themselves in the mountains and trained to be powerful warriors and archers. It was there that Violet began her training as Revali's apprentice to become an adventurer.
It was a difficult process for Violet, as she was still recovering from her injuries and trying to adapt to the Rito training regime, but it was something easier for her to handle then trying to figure out how people and emotions worked. Training also helped her to better understand her guardian, and grow closer to him, though Revali struggled on raising her, unsure of how to handle taking care of a child, let alone a human one.
The rest of the village, seeing Revali trying but usually falling a bit short because of his stubborn refusal to ask for advice, decided to help him out by communially raising Violet as a ward of the tribe, rather then just having Revali handle her care alone.
Thus, Violet grew up knowing the entire village, from the elderly to the youngest, as members of her family, though Revali was her main caretaker. He outright stated he wouldn't leave the role to anyone else, and was very protective of his "hatchling" as she started getting older, squawking at anyone who even hinted that she was going to popular for her looks that anyone who wanted to date her had to go through him first.
Violet found it amusing how attached he had grown, and assured Revali she wasn't looking for any romantic partner anytime soon. She had never felt that attraction before...and honestly, who would date someone that could barely tell you what she was feeling on a good day, let alone figure out what someone else was feeling?
During her teenage years, she began going out with Revali on missions, acting as his support and assistant and getting used to how everything worked. It was a wonderful, and terrifying experience every time, seeing both the capacity for cruelty and kindness in others. But Violet quickly adapted to this lifestyle, and was content to continue this way...until the day she met him.
Whilst in the middle of assingment, Violet was approached by another adventurer who was looking for possible candidates to recruit to his magical rescue organization. His name was Gilbert, a kind man who saw how hard she worked alongside her guardian, and hoped to help her achieve her potential.
Thinking maybe it would be best if she branched out from her guardian's care, Violet brought Gilbert to meet Revali, who was adamant on keeping her with him at first, but eventually gave in and allowed her to join the group so long as she kept in constant contact with him and did her best to stay safe. So, she went with Gilbert after finishing that one final mission with her foster father and departed with Gilbert.
She assisted Gilbert on missions, and began taking some on her own, exploring the world and seeing just what she could to help others like she was helped as a child. It was a wonderful feeling for Violet, and though there were the bad and horrible days, where things didn't go right or she couldn't save everyone...she was still helping someone, at least.
But, one day...something went horribly, terribly wrong. It was a joint-mission between her and Gilbert, attempting to reach a refugee camp in the middle of dangerous territory to evacuate them to safety. But they didn't know a trap was laid down in advance for them by the enemy.
The explosion caused the death of Gilbert, and left Violet crippled through the loss of both her arms, and she was only fortunate to survive long enough to get taken to the hospital due to Gilbert covering her from most of the explosion. There, she faced the trauma of her friend and comrade dying while also enduring the loss of her arms. She knew she would retire, for her own mental health.
Fortunately, one of her soon-to-be coworkers commissioned a pair of robotic prosthetic arms for her, in order to at least ease of some of the burden Violet had gained. She was able to continue life normally for the most part after they connected to her body, but she would still feel body-aches, from time to time.
After her release from the hospital, Violet went back to the Rito Village, spending some time among her family while trying to figure out what to do next. Revali supported her as best as he could, but knew she had to find her own path in life going forward. It didn't stop him from mother-henning her, however.
As Violet learned to use her prosthetics, she started writing letters to the deceased Gilbert, writing down everything she couldn't say to him before. She had a lot to say, but no one to direct it to anymore, and it was a very lonely feeling. But it helped her grieve and mourn without pushing herself too far, so Violet continued to write.
Over time, she wrote more and more letters, to the people she couldn't save in the past or couldn't help, apologizing for her failures, but hoping they were happier in the afterlife or at least in a better place then they were before.
Letters helped Violet connect to her emotions in a way she never had before, and she realized she could use this to express what she felt to Revali and her other loved ones. She finally had a way to communicate fully. And Violet wanted to help others express themselves this way.
She eventually left the Rito Village, with their blessing, to go to the nearby Lunaville and apply for a position at their local post office, wanting to help people convey what they felt through delivering their letters. Now, a few years later, she does her daily commute of her job with the same stoic face, but one can usually see a smile here and there when she sees someone happily receiving their mail.
